Holofoil: the only platform where money cannot come back out

Section 4 says Holofoil Credit cannot be withdrawn or cashed out, in any circumstance. Section 10 converts vaulted cards into that same credit after 30 days. Shipping the physical card is the only exit there is.

  • Odds published
  • Credit only
  • Short clock

§4: Holofoil Credit “cannot be withdrawn, cashed out, sold, or transferred to another account or person,” and Holofoil “does not offer cash payouts for sell-backs, vault conversions, promotions, or returns.” §10: “Cards left in your vault for more than 30 days may be automatically converted to Holofoil Credit.”

Read from holofoil.com, its pack builder and its Terms of Service on 2026-10-22. Pack prices are dynamic; those quoted here are the figures we observed.

The two clauses, read together

Either clause on its own would be ordinary. Four other platforms we track pay buybacks in credit, and several have vault deadlines. What makes Holofoil distinct is the combination, and the order it puts you in.

What happens to a dollar on Holofoil.
1. InYou add Holofoil Credit by card through Stripe. It lands instantly
2. RipCredit buys packs. §4: credit purchases are “final and non-refundable once the credit is delivered”; opened packs are final sales
3. PullThe card goes to your vault. You may sell it back for 90% of Holofoil's estimated value — paid in credit (§11)
4. WaitAfter 30 days the card may be converted to credit automatically (§10)
5. OutThere is no cash exit. §4 forbids withdrawal, cash-out, sale and transfer of credit. The only way value leaves is a physical card, shipped at your cost to a US or Canadian address

So the decision Holofoil actually puts to you is not “keep or sell.” It is “ship within 30 days, or convert to a balance that can only buy more packs.” Selling a card back does not realise value here in the way it does on Gotya or SwishX; it moves value sideways into the next rip.

How that compares

The five platforms whose buybacks pay credit rather than money, and what each lets you do with it.
PlatformWhat the credit can doAny cash route at all?
Fanatics Instant RipsSpend across Fanatics Live, not only on packsNo, but the spend is broad
MintPullBuy more packsSale proceeds only, capped at $250 per 7 days
PackzBuy more packsNo
Rare CandyBuy more packsNo — §8.1 gives Candy no cash value
HolofoilBuy more packsNo — §4 forbids withdrawal, cash-out, sale and transfer

Holofoil and Rare Candy are the two that say it outright in their terms rather than leaving it to be inferred. Of the two, Holofoil is the stricter: Rare Candy has no vault deadline, so a card can simply be kept. Holofoil's 30-day clause means keeping is a decision you have to act on.

If you use Holofoil, treat deposits as spent

Money that goes in cannot come back out as money, under any circumstance the terms describe. Decide what a pack is worth to you as entertainment before you deposit, not after you pull. If you pull something you want, ship it inside 30 days — that is the only form in which value leaves the platform, and the clock starts when the card enters the vault.

What it does better than most

This page would be unbalanced if it stopped there, because Holofoil's disclosure is genuinely above the category average in three places.

The odds it publishes

The pack builder shows per-card pull rates rather than value-band probabilities, which means an expected value cannot be worked out from them directly — you would need the full card pool and its values, and the pool changes with inventory.

Per-card pull rates observed in the Holofoil pack builder, 2026-10-22.
RarityStated oddsAs a percentage
SIR1 in 1,5330.065%
Gold1 in 1,0220.098%
IR1 in 2920.34%
MAR1 in 2040.49%
EX1 in 1920.52%

Card values are shown alongside, running from $1 to $1,027 raw and $26 to $2,282 in PSA 10. That is the same shape of disclosure Arena Club offers — rates and values, but not joined up into a figure you can act on.

The Custom Pack, which nobody else does

Alongside the fixed packs, Holofoil lets you build one: you choose which cards are in play, the platform quotes a price, and you rip. “Pay only for the cards you pick — keep them if they hit.”

It is the most interesting mechanic we have come across in this category, and it cuts both ways. A buyer who knows what they want can construct a pack around it rather than accepting someone else's pool, which is more control than any other platform gives. But the price is quoted by the platform using its own valuations, and section 8 makes Holofoil's determination of value “final.” You choose the contents; Holofoil still sets the price of the bet.

Prices generally are dynamic rather than round — True Ascended at $9.20, Collector's Pack at $10.56, Heavy Pack at $26.26, with Rarity Run and Slab Packs observed between $36 and $47. Our figures describe 2026-10-22 and are not a price list.

Why this page has no rating

The odds Holofoil publishes are per card rather than per value band, and the pool changes with inventory, so no expected value can be calculated from them. Prices are dynamic, which removes the other half of the calculation. The buyback cannot be scored on the same scale as the others because its proceeds are not money. Our methodology explains why we leave a cell empty rather than guess.

If you have opened Holofoil packs and can share a full pack's card pool with its rates and values, that would be enough to calculate one.

Frequently asked

Can you withdraw money from Holofoil?

No, and the terms are unusually direct about it. Section 4 says Holofoil Credit “cannot be withdrawn, cashed out, sold, or transferred to another account or person” and has no cash value except where the law requires otherwise. It adds that Holofoil does not offer cash payouts for sell-backs, vault conversions, promotions or returns. Money goes in through Stripe; the only way value comes back out is as a physical card you pay to ship. No other platform we track closes the exit this completely.

How long can you keep a card in the Holofoil vault?

Thirty days. Section 10 states that “cards left in your vault for more than 30 days may be automatically converted to Holofoil Credit,” counted from the date the card entered the vault, though Holofoil may extend that at its discretion. Read it beside section 4 and the effect is specific: a card you do not ship within a month becomes credit that can never become money again.

Does Holofoil publish pack odds?

Yes, and its terms require it to. Section 5 says each product page must show the pack contents, price and current pull rates before purchase — a contractual commitment only Packed otherwise makes. The pack builder shows per-card odds as “1 in N”: we recorded 1 in 1,533 for SIR cards, 1 in 1,022 for Gold, 1 in 292 for IR, 1 in 204 for MAR and 1 in 192 for EX. Section 5 also warns the rates describe the product “as currently configured” and are “not a promise about any single pack.”

What is a Holofoil Custom Pack?

A pack you build yourself. You pick which cards you want to be available, the platform quotes a price, and you rip: “Pay only for the cards you pick — keep them if they hit.” We have not seen this mechanic anywhere else in the category. Standard packs are priced dynamically rather than at round numbers — we recorded True Ascended at $9.20, Collector's Pack at $10.56 and Heavy Pack at $26.26 — which is consistent with pricing computed from live inventory.

Who operates Holofoil?

First Edition TCG LLC, an Oregon limited liability company trading as Holofoil. Oregon law governs, with AAA individual arbitration, a class-action waiver, a 60-day informal resolution step, a 30-day arbitration opt-out and a one-year limit on claims. Use is limited to the United States and Canada, and shipping to those two countries. You must be 18 or the age of majority where you live, whichever is higher.

Does Holofoil admit packs lose money?

More plainly than anyone else here. Section 5 states that values shown are estimates and that receiving cards worth less than the pack price is expected. Most platforms in this category imply the opposite in their marketing. We disagree with several of Holofoil's terms, but that sentence is the most honest single line we have read in nineteen sets of terms.
